Anxiety Disorders are the most common psychological disorders in the U.S. with 19.1 million (13.3%) of the adult population (ages 18-54) affected. This number increases when you factor in the high number of older adults who suffer from anxiety disorders. According to the “Economic Burden of Anxiety Disorders”, a study commissioned by the ADAA and based on data gathered by the association and published in the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, anxiety disorders cost the U.S. more than $42 billion a year, almost one-third of the $148 billion total mental health bill for the U.S. People with Anxiety Disorders are three-to-five times more likely to go to the doctor and six times more likely to be hospitalized for psychiatric disorders than non-sufferers…

The Miami Counseling & Resource Center offers individual and family therapy / counseling for children and adolescents presenting with a variety of mental health issues. Our psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and other psychotherapists are highly trained and experienced in treating your child for problems & diagnoses including the following: Attention Deficit-Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), depression or anxiety disorders, eating disorders, school/academic issues, parent-child conflicts, behavior problems, difficulty adjusting to changes such as relocation or parents’ divorce and grief.

Our psychologists provide psychological testing for gifted placements, learning disabilities, and numerous other types of academic, behavioral, and emotional problems. A written psychological and/or psychoeducational report will be given to you, as well as a feedback session to explain the results and answer your questions.

Our psychiatrist is Board Certified in child/adolescent psychiatry, provides very thorough evaluations, and can prescribe medication as indicated and follow your child’s treatment progress closely. Our marriage and family therapists and other psychologists and counselors on our team specialize in diagnosing and understanding the numerous and complex emotional difficulties children and adolescents face today. This frequently includes dealing with the many exceptionally difficult challenges such as: drug and alcohol addictions, truancy, sexual promiscuity, sexually transmitted diseases, peer pressure, eating disorders, oppositional and defiant behaviors, and self-harming behaviors.

All of our therapists and counselors will work with your child or adolescent’s teachers throughout the Miami-Dade / South Florida area if requested by the parent, and we coordinate closely with other health care professionals, when appropriate…

In addition to our expertise in eating disorders we provide nutrition counseling for all ages using a “diet-free” approach to weight management. Testing & EvaluationTesting & Evaluation

Psychologists at the Miami Counseling & Resource Center specialize in psychological and educational testing, providing comprehensive assessments for children, adolescents, and adults. If you or your child is struggling in school or at work with academic achievement or work performance, behavior problems, or interpersonal relationships, you may benefit from an evaluation assessing the wide range of components that affect learning, achievement, and performance potential.

An evaluation will describe areas of cognitive strengths and weaknesses, provide a picture of social-emotional functioning, and indicate the specific sources of performance difficulties. Diagnoses and recommendations are included to guide specific interventions and/or to communicate to school psychologists the requisite accommodations. Psychiatric MedicationPsychiatric Medication

Our esteemed psychiatrists at the Miami Counseling & Resource Center,Judith Castro-Golden MD and Diana Antia M.D., are board certified in adult psychiatry. Dr. Antia is also board certified in child & adolescent psychiatry. We are privileged to have the on-site leadership of Drs. Castro-Golden and Antia when consideration of the appropriateness of psychiatric medication is warranted.

While many mental health issues and symptoms can be treated effectively with pure psychotherapy or counseling, there are times when prescribing psychiatric medication becomes important or essential. Mental health difficulties that are commonly treated with psychiatric medications include depression and other mood disorders (e.g. bipolar disorder or dysthymia), anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorders, psychosis, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and eating disorders (e.g. anorexia and bulimia)…

Addiction TreatmentAddiction Treatment

Addictions treatment at the Miami Counseling & Resource Center is accomplished on an out-patient basis using a holistic and scientifically-based approach. Our therapists and counselors are trained to support both a 12-step program and a harm-reduction strategy. We tailor our counseling support to meet the needs of the client and guide them into a lasting recovery. Issues of relapse prevention and cognitive and behavioral strategies are applied in a warm and caring environment. Learning the common triggers and pit-falls to relapse along with a self-guided approach to healthy living are covered. Nutritional guidance can supplement treatment with our in-house nutritionist and our psychiatrist can provide the needed medication management if needed.
